PENNYBOY Roma, 1992
Pennyboy is an Italian artist born in Rome. Over the years he began to frequent the underground Rome art scene, as well as studios and workshops of painters and masters. In 2013 he met and established a friendship with the Master Gianpaolo Berto, who made him discover the avant-garde currents of his time, especially those of Italian and American Pop Art. Strongly inspired by the British youth subcultures of the 70's - both musical and cultural - and by the provocative style of fashion designers of the time such as Vivienne Westwood, Pennyboy finds his own artistic style between the influences of English Punk and overseas Street Art. Versatile and multifaceted artist, always looking for the pure visual impact, he began to experiment in his works different elements and mediums such as glues, resins, and metals. The continuous research and experimentation and the strong attraction towards industrial materials, led the artist to execute his works on iron sheets, through a new and unique style - "Iron Pop". The deformation process, that distinguishes each work, is entirely handmade and gives the iron the identity of other materials like paper or fabrics, reproducing in this way banknotes, magazine covers, comic book pages or many other objects, even such as car pieces. In this way, new shapes surround characters and contemporary icons painted by the artist, reproducing and mixing the chaotic and decadent scenery of Underground Culture and the brightness of luxury. "Iron, in its sensitive and deformable nature, exponentially reflects any mark to which it is subjected, just like the human soul, violable but indestructible". Pennyboy’s wall-sculptures immediately attract the attention of collectors and experts of Art, both in Italy and abroad, leading the artist to several exhibitions and collaborations with important Art Galleries, merchants, and Art Magazines. In 2019 Pennyboy exhibited in Rome, first at “Arte Da Leone- 30th anniversary of the death of Sergio Leone and then at the "Macro Museum" of Rome. In July 2021 his artworks and interview are published in the Londoner “Sir.K Magazine” and in Mondadori "Artisti 2021 - Annuario internazionale D'arte Contemporanea". During the years his works have been presented and sold several times on the TV channel ArteOraTv beside works of Italian masters like Mario Schifano, Franco Angeli, Tano Festa and Renato Mambor. Between 2021 and 2022, Pennyboy's artworks are requested by important galleries in northern Italy; indeed, the artist begins a period of intense production and collaborations in Monza, Milan, Bergamo, and Brescia. In February 2022, he becomes a member of the Silver Studio Art Factory, a Roman Pop Art artistic group, and starts collaborating with Restelliartco Gallery in Rome. In the following months, he exhibits first at the Bergamo ArtFair and UnFair Milano, and later at the VeniceArt 22' exhibition.
