‘Senza Titolo’ is a unique artwork of Mario Schifano. The artist lived in the center of Rome, an open and cosmopolitan city, next to Rotella, Moravia and Elsa Morante. ‘The pursued tactic is to zero the spatial dimension to the simple two-dimensional surface of the painting, reducing it to a smooth and specular body. The only material is color, because space is pure support and an opportunity for the extension of color’ – Achille Bonito Oliva. Here we are faced with an artwork that represents the artist’s figurative simplification phase. The intent is to focus on the device which freezes a uniform gaze. The painting develops through irregular and dripping brushstrokes.
